Dell 2407 Arrived : Potential Problem

Hi!

My Dell 2407 arrived this weekend and I get an occasional glitch on the screen which reminds me of the shimmer when you turned a CRT on or a milder version of the shimmer that followed degausing. Most of the time the image is rock solid but I get this occasional effect. It seams to occur regularly when the desktop first appears after logging into Vista. Is there something wrong with my TFT?

Do other Dell 2407 users experience this effect?

Thanks,

I assume you're running DVI... but if it's VGA that could be the cause.

Not got an external power supply (laptop, external caddy, etc...) nearby as they sometimes cause interference.

ok, the shimmer is happening during normal use at random intervals and the power socket is buzzing and if i softly brush the cable (happened by accident) the whole thing switches off. Where can I find details of the four year warranty and how do I register for it? Nothing was in the box.

Thanks,

If it is faulty, and only a week old, why don't you talk to the supplier for a refund rather than bother about the manufacturers warranty, at this stage....?

I phoned OCuk support and they told me I needed to phone Dell to get it replaced. Dell are currently trying to do something for me but as I don't have a Dell order number the guy is struggling a little. Very nice guy though. Talking to someone in Glasgow at the moment.

PS- it is a lovely screen just a couple of issues on this one

update... Dell say my serial number isn't a UK serial number so I need an order or customer number from OCuk for Dell (not the OC order number which I tried with Dell, just in case).

Back on the phone... :D

You need your work order number, it should be printed on the original box, I had to do the same thing to get my 2007 WFP replaced, when I gave them that, they replaced it. They will try and send you a refurbished monitor, but stand firm and insist on a new one.

Yeah OCuk just told me that and said Dell were wrong about the serial number not being UK. I had to remove another label (Citysprint?) and found it there thanks.

Unfortunately this reveals a Work Order and Customer PO which Dell says they don't recognise. Sigh. Still talking to the Dell guy whose trying to fob me off with sending me back to OC.

Fingers crossed. I have him sifting through Esnet Ltd orders now looking for mine.

Great, they've now found my serial number and it has my order number attached so at least they know I'm not talking rubbish. It's in the "wrong system" though. I feel this is going to be a long day. I'm now being passed to Dell Guy 2's Supervisor...

They want me to send them digital photographs of the labels as proof.

I know what you mean, the first time that I rang them they had me on the phone for 45 minutes, started off at the Indian call centre and then ended up speaking to about 3 different people in Scotland, I must admit they were very helpful though. My work number was also hidden under a Citylink label.
Good luck.

Well after much hassle they have recognised the issue using another order number, they were still confused by the one on my label and are arranging a replacement for me. I have to say that although I had some issues with them recognising this work number or order number Dell were polite and helpful at all times and had four people work to resolve this issue. Sure I was unlucky with glitches in the process but in the end they have arranged for a replacement and I feel that is good customer support. All Credit to them!

I had a problem with my dell xps gaming laptop one morning at around 11am, phoned dell, next morning guy called at my home, replaced the motherboard and left by 12. Sorted in 24 hours.

Then it seemed the power supply went on it. When on the phone to dell they explained they would replace both the power supply and battery and that the courier would ask for the old ones in turn. Anyways, sure enough next day the courier has the battery and drive. Hands them to me, i sign and he buggered off lol. Here it was only the power supply so i ended up with a new power supply, and 2 perfect batteries. Even after that Dell phoned me a week later and asked me if my problem was solved, i said yes everything appears to be working now. I explained about the battery and charger and he just said "no worries". That was about 8 months ago now.

So in my experiece, Dell has excellent after sales service.

Took delivery of my 2407 on Friday morning when i was at work, hooked it up Friday night to find it had a power issue. The monitor would power off randomly. Phoned Dell this morning as that was the first time i had to do this and new monitor is on its way.

Will say i got through to a Scots guy who also happens to be a gamer so first expierience with dealing with Dell was a fairly good one.

Apart from that this monitor is great and couldnt ask for a better monitor

I picked up this monitor from OC on Saturday. Very pleased with it.

The only thing that concerns me is that unlike my graphics and sound card, there is no warranty card and doesn't appear to be any way to register my product on Dells web page.

I've emailed Dell about this as I don't want to be in a situation say in 3 years time when the monitor fails and Dell claim no knowledge of a 4 year warranty.

Had their overseas call centre phone me up today to say they've received my email and to ask what problem I'm having. I explained again (as already did so in email) and they're forwarding my email to the correct department.

Awesome monitor. Would have thought something like registering my product would be straight forward though.

Dell have just emailed me,

Thank you for your email. To make a claim under the warranty for this monitor, you would simply have to call 0870 90 80 800 and quote the Dell order number( this should have been supplied by Overclockers). You would also have to have the serial number from the back of the monitor. There is no need to register the monitor in your name or anything similar, as long as you can quote the name of the company who purchased the monitor.
