am using this monitor through DVI connector -

the display settings have some `greyed out`

fill mode and sharpness are greyed out... is this correct ?

and do people really change the settings from multimedia / desktop depending on what they are watching ?
..... or is one better for general use...?

I just use mine on the desktop setting, seems to be the best, fill mode is greyed out for me when using certain resolutions, I've noticed it with 1600x1200 res. I've also had to turn the brightness up in game on a few things as it can get very dark in some places, could be due to the high contrast ratio of the screen.

Also I tried to run my xbox 360 at 1080p through the screen and the monitor said it was out of range  I don't understand how it could be seeing as 1080p is 1920x1080 and the monitors optimal res is 1920x1200, plus being a tft it's progressive 60hz scan anyway. Anyone else had this problem?

DVI will grey out a lot of options on most monitors in my experience. I believe that is because the DVI connector bypasses most of the circuitry inside the monitor.

I use Powerstrip shortcut keys to change my settings.

A nice relaxing one for browsing, bright gamma hax for gaming, colour perfect for photshop and one with deep blacks for tv/movies.

Ctrl-Shift + Key, nice and simple.
