Hi folks,

I would like to gain from Dell 2407 owners' views if I may. I have read as many reviews and info on this forum on the Dell 2407 as I can find, and not seen any input on the coarse (0.27) pixel dot pitch of this monitor. The 30" and 20" models are finer at 0.25 pitch.
I currently run an Iiyama 22" Pro514 CRT which has 0.24 dot pitch which is excellent but starting to fail.
I am considering the 2407 to gain more viewing space. I want it for surfing, website work, photography, DVD and watching TV via a PCI card with games being a lower priority. I have concerns about possible poor text quality at lower than the highest resolutions with such a high pixel pitch. I well remember the old 0.28 pitch CRTs !!
There are some finer pitch LCDs out there but at a huge cost and none seem to have all the features of the 2407.

Thanks for any feedback,
Aldel

pixel pitch on an LCD works a little differently to a CRT. It determines the distance between adjacent pixels and is dictated by the size of the screen and the resolution (since an LCD has a fixed native resolution based on the size of the liquid crystal matrix. As a result, all 24" screens have 1920 x 1200 res, and so all have the same dot pitch. From using a 2405FPW for a couple of years i'd say there is certainly no issue with text clarity or text size on a 24" TFT. I've tested several 20"WS models too, and while the text is a little smaller, it doesnt really impact sharpness or clarity. 19" models look noticably a little larger imo, but again, not really an issue. You'll find most people have no issue with text clarity on LCD's, it tends to be very good.

Thanks for the re-assuring info.
My choice is gradually swinging around to the 2407. Justing waiting a few more days to finally convince myself. OC's price with 4 years waranty seems good.
Should I expect to see at least one dead pixel on a new one or is that a rarety?

I feel it is a great pity that none of the retail stores seem to display them as you can't beat actually seeing one in the flesh so to speak.

Thanks, aldel

pixels are luck of the draw. most monitors dont suffer from this. out of 6 TFT's ive owned only 1 has had pixel problems.

The monitor itself, i thought they looked big in pics but are bigger in person and much better than i thought there just amazing screens. Buy one now!
