Hi
My trusty 2407 has done me well since April 2007 but I've now got a problem.
The on/off button is stuck 'in' so I cannot turn it on or off without unplugging it at the wall. It doesn't click like others.
Has anyone else has this problem and is there a way to sort this out?

I have the 3yr Monitor Replacement Service so wondering how it works and I presume this fault would be considered enought for them to replace it. If they did, what would I get?
Thanks

I read of another person having this problem, and Dell replaced it with another 2407, have one myself, but do not have any problems with it; I suppose the best thing would be to give them a ring...

i got a referb when this happened to me - VERY long story short, that came broken then they sent me the wrong monitor then i got a new one.

i now have a multi plug with the individual switches to turn my monitors on/off now. just incase it happened again.

Why do you need to use the power button anyway ?, a lot of 2407's all seem to suffer from problems if you keep using the power button, I had the same problem myself, now I use a bat file that I can double click on my desktop to put my monitor/s into standby while my PC stays on.

I like to be able to turn it off to save power, not a lot compared to standby I know but still. Also I'm running Windows 7 ATM and have a bug where my screensaver doesn't work so it's even more necessary.
I think I'll give them a call, I bought direct from Dell so should be relatively simple to get sorted. (I read about a guy having problems after buying from a reseller)

Can you share that bat file, please? :D

Same thing happened to me, I gave Dell a ring and they came out next day with a new monitor. I had an A03 and they came with a refurbed A04. My first replacement was a bit off though, backlighting was very uneven and the colours looked a bit washed out. I rang them again and they replaced that one with a perfectly good one. So keep going until you get a replacement you're happy with :D

Thanks Aidoscuz. I'll be arranging a pick up next week. Do they ask for it to be picked up all in original box etc? I have it but worth knowing

Here you go, it's an *.exe, thought it was a bat file, anyhow, whack this into 'C:\windows' directory and make a shortcut to your desktop and call it 'Shut down monitors' or what ever, then right click the shortcut and click properties, in the 'Target' box add 'monitor off' at the end leaving a space.

Now you can leave your PC on and just double click the shortcut to put your monitors into standby.

Thanks ;)

I'll try when i get back home

The guy brought the replacement in a box, gave me the new monitor and stand from it, and took my old one. :)

Yeah they did the same for me on the first one. All you need is the monitor and stand. Though for some reason on the second replacement they left me with the first replacement as well for about two weeks, so I had a temporary dual 24" setup :p 3840x1200 is rather sweet. They came back and took away the first one eventually anyway, I was kind of hoping they'd forget about it and leave me with with the two of them...

Mmm...

Mmmn...dual 24's. Good to know about the box as mine is in the loft of my parents house.
Waiting for a time when someone is gonna be in before ringing them

Cool. Identical model i suppose?

Not for me, I had a 2407 I got in 2007, and I had a 2408 too. I got a replacement for my 2407 as I noticed it had developed a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. They replaced the 2407 with a brand new 2408.

It was pretty lucky really, as I was getting irritated by the colour differences between my 2407 and 2408. Now I've got 2 2408s and they look the same. :D

Great tip thank you, also google 'nircmd' for more quite useful shortcuts like this.

Mine goes off then instantly comes back on. Wondering if this is related to the screensaver on my W7 install also not working?
