The 2407 - What's the bottom line?

Basically, I need to get a new monitor pronto...and my weapon of choice is a 24".

I can't wait for BenQ to get their act together, and at £700 plus I am not sure that I want to.

This leaves me with the Dell, which I can get for £500, zero dead pixels guaranteed, checked for banding etc., plus 4 yrs on-site.

I will use this purely as a PC monitor on a new PC that I am about to buy the bits for, based on an Nvidia card somewhere in the region of a 7900 GTO (budget £200 ish).

The bottom line is...

When I am not running this screen at 1920 x 1200 (ie. native res.) will it maintain the correct aspect ratio's with other resolutions through DVI - 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 1024 etc., or will it scale them to fit the screen.

Secondly, if I want it to scale none native resolutions to fit the screen, do I have to do this through the Nvidia drivers or are the settings for aspect ratio selectable.

If any users of the 2407 can shed some light, I would greatly appreciate it.

by default the dell with FILL the screen with whatever res you put through it. there is an option for 1:1 pixel mapping (borders all the way arround) and an option to ASPECT which will keep the aspect but stretch it to the screen (borders either side)

non native res will be scaled by default.

Hope that helps

Normski - you say that there is a 'zero dead pixels guaranteed' on this monitor? I bought a 2407WFP on TWO last week and it has one dead pixel which is stuck on white, not immediately noticeable but it is once you know it's there. I haven't yet contacted Dell about this but where does it say that it is guaranteed to be dead pixel free?

Would like to get some ammunition together before I ring them that's all!

It doesn't. There is no zero dead pixel guarantee if you buy through Dell or OcUK. He's talking about screens bought (new) from a popular auction site, where the seller is checking the screens before sending them out.

Still it's worth trying your luck with Dell, I've certainly heard of people getting replacements for just one dead pixel, or even for an uneven backlight.

I got mine from the same seller I think. Great service and indeed the monitor has no dead pixels! :D

Five year warranty though... ;)
