Been thinking for ages about which 24" to spend my hard earned student loan on and the price of the 2407 is very tempting, but reports are that component input looks awful on the screen. Is it really that bad that it should put me off buying the monitor?

I would suggest waiting a while and perhaps going for the Samsung SM-245B once it has a few more reviews.

Can't answer your question though, unfortunately.

The Samsung does look a nice monitor and I wouldn't really hesitate about it, apart from the fact that it doesn't support component at all :p

I basically have my AV amplifier hooked up to my monitor (Gateway FPD2185W). The amp outputs component video from my 360 and Wii and HDMI from my PS3, but unfortunately can't upscale video signals such as component to HDMI/DVI, so unless I can muster the money for a new amp as well, component is a must on a new monitor.
