Well as topic my Dell 2407wfp just bit the dust hard.

I was over the other side of the room when there was an almighty crack and then a horrible burning smell

So folks, give me your best recommendations.
Some light video and photo work with some gaming.
Mostly RPGs, MMOs and a bit of the occasional fps.

I'm in a similar predicament my Dell 2407wfp is starting to make buzzing noises and I think it may be on it's last legs.

I would like a similar 24" monitor replacement too had a look around and found what I think is the latest match to the old and trusty 2407 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-068-DE&groupid=17&catid=510

Not sure about it though as I've seen a few negitive comments about colour reproduction and Dell's monitor quality not being the same as it used to be.

Some advise on a new monitor would be good here but I'm not really an expert when it comes to new screens.

What the UP2414Q that does look very nice but I think my max budget for a new monitor is probably going to be £500, I think going up to £800 might get me in trouble :(

You only live once buddy and 4K will last for ages its the next standard. And the new Dells do look amazing. Have you thought about 120HZ Eizo 2421?

Its got the blacks the Dell you had could never do. I dont know which i would pick and get the wifey something nice so it lessens the blow ;)

What are peoples thoughts on the AOC Q2770PQU.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-018-AO

Seems to tick all the boxes and doesn't totally break the bank.

Never owned or used but looks very good to me.

3yr on site warranty - Excellent.

Why not take a punt? You can always return via DSR if you find it's not for you.

Have not had time to find any independent reviews but am sure they are out there and subject to them being good - Go for it:)

I don't know if my PC hardware is ready yet to push for 4K yet though so I would have to spend £800 on the monitor and then shell out another £500 on buying 2 Nvidia 770s and SLI them for games on 4K. I can't really justify that at the moment :(. The EIZO looks interesting that it has a VA panel and can run at 240Hz shame it doesn't really have an adjustable stand though. I might just wait until my monitor blows up and see if there is anything similar with an adjustable stand out then....

If mine hadnt gone bang I'd still be using the thing 5 years from now probbly.
Those screens where just that good.

99% sure I will take a punt on the AOC.
No RTC overshoot, practicaly non-exsistant input lag / latency and full tilt, pivot and height adjust :)
Oh and it doesnt use PWM dimming which is a MASSIVE plus.

The Dell 2407 WFP is still a great screen so have you considered attempting a repair? If take apart the monitor and identify find the part that's broken you should be able to find a replacement for it at a fraction of the costs of a new monitor. I'm sure people on here will be willing to help you if you post some pictures.

While I probbly could repair it, its had its day :)
Its developed several duff pixels over the years so a replacment has been on the cards for a while now.

Yesterdays explosive death just forced the issue

Yeh sure.
Not like its doing me any good now :p

Drop me a mail via trust with your details and I'll see if I can extract it over the weekend.

The U2414H from Dell which is a newer model also looks very nice and has a super thin bezel but I'm not sure if it's in the same class as the U2413 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-072-DE

Does anyone have one of these yet, are they any good?

Yep, they're very nice. Quite a few of us use them, seen a few triple-monitor setups with them.

Compared with the U2413:

It's 16:9 rather than 16:10. Neither good nor bad, just personal preference.

It's not using a wide gamut backlight so if that's your thing then it's not suitable, fine for sRGB stuff though. Comes factory calibrated too, dunno if the U2413 does or not.

The U2414H has slightly lower input lag but fractionally worse response times so is basically equivalent for gaming uses.

It's got slightly better contrast ratio than the U2413.

Based on: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2414h.htm and me owning one.

Edit: PWM is not used on the backlight, so no flicker. No idea about the U2413 in this regard.

I still use the 2007WFP which is a sharper version of the 2407 i had both but decided on the sharper smaller version. But alas im skint and buying audio gear this month or two instead of buying a replacement as really apart from the Dell 21:9 or the Eizo 240hz VA there is not a lot out there that is going to be wow, Massive difference those screens were that good back then.

I remember the day my Trinitron CRT packed up and i went through 4 monitors via DSR to find the right one and it was the DELL. But the black overshoot ruined my eyes and the focus on them. Thats the one bad thing about them, They ruin eyesights.

One of my Dell 2007WFP just died last weekend (9 years old). I have opened it up and the only thing I can see is a popped 450v 180uF cap so I am going to replace it and see if it lives to fight another day.

I do want a new monitor though but I am really undecided about what to get.

*whoops didn't mean to revive a really old thread! ignore :)
