Dell 2407wfp revision o3 (plus 2007wfp revisions)

I've stumbled across one of these secondhand and i was just wondering whats the difference between a rev 03 and a rev o4.

Is a rev o3 perfectly ok?

cheers,
Wahid.

Mods: can you change the title to the updated one please.

A04 added 1:1 mode from a 1080p input. Think that's about it. For use as a PC monitor though 1:1 mode at 1080p is totally unimportant since your video software can display 1080p movies at 1:1 with your desktop resolution set to 1920*1200. It does matter it you want to connect a 360/PS3 at 1080p though and not have the screen scale the image up to fill the screen.

ok thanks. also i dont play games just use the pc for internet and watching dvds. Will my basic nvidia n6200 128mb cope with this at this high resolution?

Futhermore does a dvd still look pretty sharp when expanded to 1920 x 1200?

I'm sure the 6200 will do that res just fine.

As for DVDs, upscaling them onto a high resolution and fairly large PC monitor that you're sat very close to, it can make them fairly blurry and unpleasant. Not the screens fault of course, it's just that DVDs are quite low res and compressed (which the sharpness of LCDs tend to show up), plus the upscaling of some video software can be poor.

If you sit a bit further back (say 4 ft) it will probably look much better though, or get into HD movies which will really let the screen shine.

another thing, can a rev A03 be updated to A04 through a firmware update or somthing similar?

FISH99 - Also how do you rate the 2007wfp for movies as that was my first choice (plus any differences between revisions 3 and 4 on those?)

cheers

AFAIK no the firmware can't be updated. Movies on the 2007WFP - depends really, most HD movies look very nice, DVDs played through my 360 look decent, DVDs played through my PC a little less good, which suggests the upscaler in the 360 is doing a better job than the software upscaler in WinDVD/vlc etc.

I would say it's quite a bit worse than watching DVDs on my 32" LCDTV with my upscaling HDMI DVD player, but of course I sit >6 ft from the TV and only 2 ft from my 2007WFP, so it's probably not fair to make comparisons.

I don't think any of the updates since A02 (mine is A02) have been significant on the 2007WFP from what I've heard, just minor tweaks.

is there a web site showing the changes on the revisons ?
No because Dell won't say what the changes were. From the rumours I've just read by googling it seems the main changes are further fixes to the banding problem. However as long as you leave the screen in desktop mode, even with an A02 like mine there is no banding, it's only on multimedia/gaming modes (which have zero advantages over desktop mode btw, they're not quicker or anything, they just have a chip which adjusts brightness on the fly which looks horrible). There's no reason to avoid A02.
