Evening,

I've been gaming on a Dell 2407wfp since the monitor came out 5-6 years ago and tbh cant fault it at all. It does all I need it to do.

But, I read about colour gamuts, faster refresh rates, backlight bleed etc, etc... Time has gone by and without much to compare to I wonder if I am missing out on anything.

I'm aware of 120mhz, 2560x1440, 1920x1080 or even the new Dell 2560x1080, but would any of the above or even just a newer Dell 24" 16:10 add anything to my current gaming setup?

Hi RaveyDavey.

I too am a Dell 2407WFP user, they really are great monitors!
An I too am looking for great alternatives, to upgrade too.

Presently the Monitor market seems to be flooded with affordable 24" monitors for £200+. An they are likely better than ours:
Dell 2412M = £230 (Which I also own)
Dell 2440SL = £200
Dell 2410 = £360 (The Best Dell 24" replacement to our beloved 2407WFP.)

But the Monitor market has moved to affordable an professional grade 27" screens. Commonly they start at £250, an move too £600+.
However there are Two variations of the 27" screens:
Cheaper 1900x1080 Resolution
Expensive 1600x1440 Resolution
Again there is the following Dell monitors to consider at that size.
Dell 2740L = £300 (1900x1080)
Dell 271HM = £520 (2560x1440)
Dell 2713H = £600 (2560x1440)

Beyond those there is the much more Professional Market (Expensive)
Dell 2913WM = £510 (2560x1080 21:9 Aspect Ratio)
Dell 3011 = £900 (2560x1600)
Dell 3014 = Feb-Mar Release (2560x1600)

However if your ever planning on selling the house, you can consider new monitors coming soon:
Sharp 32" = $5000 (3840x2160) 4K Monitor.

Sadly I am not in a position to tell you what you need.
But the newer 27" screens do seem to be where the market is at, an worth buying.
Me personally I am holding off until the new Dell 3014 release, an may consider buying it. I am after a single large monitor an that seem's to be the best option for me, if a little rich for my liking.

Thanks Seanoog.

I really appreciate you setting out the options etc.

To be honest, I was hoping for the "OMG you still have one of them...get the Dell XXXX now it'll blow your mind!!" answer! ;)

Cost isn't too much of an issue and I guess I don't need more than 24" (16:10) for gaming.

I'm interested in any comparisons between say a 2407 and a 2410 for image quality, finish, etc.

I dont know what I want...lol!

I have 3x2407FPWs and they've been a great screen but I too am looking for a replacement, I'm starting to look at 27" 2560x1440.

That said my screen are all pixel perfect and have no backlight issues not something that can be said of many "new" screens.

I'm currently tempted by:

ASUS PB278Q : Professional LED Multimedia (keeping 2x 2407s in portrait either end)
U2913WM : 29" Dell Ultrawidescreen

I guess I'm also not sure how much of a leap these screens are going to be, am I going to think "wow this amazing" or "meh wish I'd spent my money on something else"

HEADRAT

Im still hugging my Dell 2007WFP which is the little brother of your 2407.Its just shy of 1080p packed into a 20".

To be honest i would either stick with its great colors etc or move up to 120HZ or 2560x1440 on the U2713 with its LED backlight.

I reckon either 2560 resolution or 120hz would give a fair wow factor. If 60HZ is fine and your dont percieve much blur, mouse issues and general LCD issues i would opt for the 2560x1440 dell.

Only go 120HZ if you think you can cope with a TN panel.IDK how close a quality TN can comes to a dell 2407 so i cannot comment. If say the glossy samsung 120hz screens could match the older IPS dells i would be in the same boat and would probably opt for 120HZ as i think mouse movement on 60HZ sucks in certain game and i notice a lot of blurring and general unsmoothness on LCD's which are slowly giving me headaches and eye issues.

Another 2407 user here. Lovely monitor, much better than most you can buy even now! Rock solid too, I have had friends replace their dead Samsung monitors in the same 6 year time span a few times and I wonder how long it will be before this goes- although I think I may be in for a wait!

Anyway, I keep one eye on the market and I can honestly say that nothing except the 2913WM has grabbed my attention. I have thought about going up to 27" or even the GFX killing 30" but the cost is monumental and the "upgrade" just is not worth it when I try to justify it to myself. I have resigned to just sit back and save until something special comes out (that is why I liked the 2913WM) or my current monitor dies.

Had mine for a similar amount of time and as your say cant knock the value for money, considering some of the posts you see on here day after day. That said, if I recall if was a fair chunk of cash back in 2007. lol!

Think I'm with you Benno. Nothing leaps out and says "buy me big boy!".... I like the 2913 but over the years I've seen "special" monitors come and go and I'm not totally convinced its the one...Meh!

Me and my old faithful will just battle on for now I guess.

Must try a 120mhz at some point though if only to see what its like. ;)

I've had one of my 2407FPW for about 5/6 years, that's value for money ;)

Had mine nearly 5 years.
Was £550 roughly, back then. With 5 year warrenty, still holding on rightly (Touchs wood)
An loved using it, all that money on state of the art gaming pc, an the performance is presented in stunning HD on the Dell. :)

Dell 3014 or Honda... Decisions.

Another 2407wfp user here had mine since 2007 as well still going strong no problems what so ever have been looking at monitors again and still cant decided weather to replace or just stick with it for the time being are the 120mhz monitors really worth it not seen one in the flesh
