Dell 2408 vs current equivalents

I have a Dell 2408. It's done reasonably well, aside from the DVI ports going haywire. I'm building a complete new desktop PC for my sister, and she's set me a very tight budget (£500). As such, she's basically going to get my current computer for less than it's worth on MM and I'll chuck a load of extra cash in and get myself a nice Skylake system. Works for both of us I guess.

Aside from the usual net and office stuff, I edit photos on my desktop. The Dell when calibrated has been fairly good for this. I could either get my sister a Dell P2414H or I could give her my 2408 and get something new, either 24 or 27 inch.

Has the tech moved on a great deal since I bought my 2408? What's a reasonable replacement? Are the U2414, U2515 and U2715 tangibly better screens?

Well I have a Dell 2410 with 2407's either side of it and, apart from a difference in colour tone on the 2410 compared to the other two I'm still very happy with them. I do look occasionally at new, larger monitors and dream a little but overall they are fine for my work as well as playing games like Elite and iRacing over a triple setup.

Having said all that I haven't put them side by side with a "modern" monitor.
