Hi

I'm looking to replace my Benq G2400W with something slightly bigger.
I'm mainly going to be using it for Xbox 360 and movies.

Which would you suggest I'd go for between the Dell and the Hanns.g stated in the thread title? I don't know much about monitors but I believe they are both TN panels which is OK for me.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I always thought the 27" dells were VA but that could just be the 2707 as i'm not too clued up on the 2709.

Personally i chose the Hannsg. Looked to have fairly low input lag and a decent panel (believe it's an LG model) plus it was mega cheap at over £180 less than the Dell.

That saving for me means i can probably get another GTX 260 to help with more modern games too.

Ah you could be right there about it being VA panel.
I was almost set on the HANNS.G but i'm not sure whether to just push the boat out on this one and go for the better quality Dell

Depends what you're doing with it TBH.

If it's desktop based work and photo editing then the Dell would probably be my choice.

For gaming (response times and lag) and a wallet friendly price the Hanns G would IMO be best.

the 2709 is SPVA and has about 45ms lag as far as i know personaly i dont like TN pannel and you wont as well if u ever used a half good VA based moniter

I've used a 30" Dell SIPS and a couple of VA's. They do have better viewing angles and colour rendition is more faithful.

However the Hyundai W240D (TN) i presently use does very well in this respect and when properly calibrated is a very decent performer - as was the Samsung 226BW i had before it.

That said - you are right KillBoy, if you can afford it then VA or IPS panels are the best but some TN's aren't as awful as others make out.

I decided on the Dell 2709W and it arrived yesterday.
So far i'm very happy with it, the picture is so bright and vibrant compared to my other TN. I'm using it for the Xbox at the moment and movies.

I havent noticed any input lag but then i'm no screen buff.

Nice one - glad you're happy with it!

They do look like nice screens.

Let us know how you find it after a bit of use. Pictures would be nice too! :D

I've had the 2709w for one week and then sold it because of the bothering input lag.
Everyone who intends to buy this monitor should try this little lag simulator before .See by yourself if you are disturbed by the lag or not.

The test should be done on a CRT monitor or on a really low lag TFT.

Set the slider between 50 and 60ms and you are aboard the 2709w.

That almost seems unbelievable that the lag could be that bad - Herojuana would you say that yours is that slow when just moving the mouse about the screen ?

I'll give it a try with my PC later on - i've only used Xbox on it including playing COD 5 and not had any problems really.

I'll try and get some pictures later also ;)

Fanch, by the way which revision was your monitor A00 or A01?

I took a load of pictures but can't get them off the camera, bugger . I will try find the tdriver and maybe post them later.

I've just tried the dell with my pc and there is a slightl 'floatiness' feel to the mouse but nothing like on that input lag simulator.
I don't know, it might bother some people more than me, but im pretty satisfied, i thought it would be much worse from what people were saying in that other 2709 thread.
Gonna stick with my Samsung 22" for the PC i think, unless i end up doing some hardcore gaming on it. For now i'll use it with the xbox for games and movies.
If you played a PC game with this you might actually forget where you are due to ** peripheral vision being cut down by a huge amount thanks to the size of the beast.

Colours are awesome for me.

wow boy am i glad i came across this thread. It just goes to prove, wasting time while at work can be extremely productive!

I was going to buy the Dell 2709W + 4870X2 for myself this xmas, but looks like hans G will be getting my dosh now.

It was a A01 from Czech Rep.It seems that there are no improvements from a00 to a01 concerning the lag.

Well some people are more bothered by the lag than others.I couldn't stand it personnaly.

Btw the lag test is of course useless if you do it on the 2907w.
