hi
DOES ANYONE HAVE A DELL 30" monitor if so what is it like for gaming / watching dvds?
I am thinking of buying one but I read some where that there was going to be a refresh which had a faster response time.

You mean Gaming?
Yeh it should be an great monitor for gaming, so long as you have a very decent graphics card to power it *Your looking in the range of £500 just on graphics to make the most of the size of the screen in games*

For DVDs it will be niiiiice :) - my 24" is good, so 30" is just awesome :D

Gaming is one M ;)

But as PinkFloyd said, your be looking at either a 8800gts/gtx (with the latter being better) or a crossfire/sli x1900 or 7900 series to get decent fps

got A 8800gtx from OCuk am trying to SLI but have a few probs
You'll want 2 for SLI ;) :p

What problems are you having when trying to SLI? (dear god I hope for your sake you do have 2 cards looking back at my last comment :p)

at the price the dell 30" are selling for why on earth aern't you looking at the sony 40w2000 LCD HDTV?

1920X1080P and 40" :-)

Just an idea

btw, search around because they can be had for a tad under £1,500

yes I have two cards but 2nd card says not enough resources to run :(
I was hesitant to get an lcd Tv as the screen resolution is lower

Not enough resources to run???

What power supply have you got matey?

It is excellent for (PC) gaming, although there'll always be someone to remind you that a CRT is better. I'm using a single 7950GT and in older games (HL2/CSS, Prey/Doom) it copes in native resolution (no AA, 8xAF, all graphics up). I haven't tried watching DVDs on it, but the 1080p videos I've tried have looked at least as good as they did on my 2405FPW.

You will always be chasing cutting-edge graphics cards with this screen, although I'm not a serious PC-gamer and so can live with 1280x800/1440x900/1680x1050/1920x1200 in games (for the sake of a completely flawless framerate in brand-new games).

Also... I've just ordered one myself... Dell have just released their A02 revision - while it doesn't reduce the response time (14ms is perfectly fine anyway)... it does clear up some of the backlighting issues that older models had + is a slightly improved panel in general.

I have a Dell 30" TFT, it's bloody great for gaming. :) I'm currently running a X1900XT with it and find no probs with the likes of BF2142.

The dells are £1026.... why are you suggesting spending an extra £500 on a lower resolution monitor? lol

£1026? I've double checked the price and cleared my cache. Looks like £1,467.58 to me. If you are finding that price somewhere else than that's a cracking price :D OCUK being beat by over £400

The reason I suggested the TV is simple when you think about it. 1920x1080 is plenty high enough to make games look stunning while still being able to run smoothly on current graphics cards. The dell 30" native res is something crazy high and will probably need some very expensive graphics card next year to handle the games of 2007.

I simply mentioned it as an idea, something to think about ;)
