Dell 3007WFP and nVidia sync problem on Windows 7

Hello,

I was hoping the luminaries on this forum could suggest some solutions to a troublesome problem I have with my (oldish) gaming rig.

I am trying to upgrade it to Windows 7 64-bit, but at the point Windows switches from the low-res screen mode to full res (at first login) the monitor seems to lose sync. This appearance is as if the screen is skewed to the right at a very shallow angle (if anyone is old enough to remember the ZX80 'manic venitian blind' tape loading screen it will give you some idea).

The strange thing is, it doesn't go wrong immediately, this image is OK for about 30 seconds before losing sync.

The monitor is an original series 3007WFP (circa 2005), and I have two EVGA 7900GT COs in SLI.

Things I have tried to diagnose the problem:
1. Retested with XP Pro 64-bit - this works fine, so hardware is unlikely to be faulty.
2. Tried turning off SLI - fails in the same way.
3. Tried each 7900GT separately - fails in the same way.
4. Tried various nVidia drivers from the oldest available in the archive for Windows 7 (the pre-release betas) through to the latest - fails in the same way.
5. Tried all four available DVI ports on the two graphics cards - fails in the same way.
6. Tried replacing the 7900GTs with a single Radeon HD4350 (yes, it wouldn't be any use for gaming, but it did work at full res on the desktop).
7. Tried tweaking the monitor .inf file for the 3007WFP to slightly change the sync rate up and down from 60Hz.
8. Tried Windows 7 32-bit - fails in the same way.

My conclusion is that the Windows 7 nVidia drivers are incompatible with my monitor, but I would welcome any suggestions.

One other thing of note, one sync has been lost, if I swap the monitor from one DVI port on the 7900GTs to any other DVI port, I get a stable picture back for about 10 seconds (I guess this is the time taken for PnP detection).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Richard.
