Hi all im interested in getting the Dell 3007 HC monitor but there are certian things that are holding me back for buying

firstly what dose it mean when they say dual-link DVI-D graphic card reqired? i currently have x2 GeForce 8800 GTX cards in SLi do i need 2 DVI ports on the back of the card to plug into the monitor?

second is games i play WOW and BF2 will this monitor support non native resolutions without putting annoying black borders to make up for a smaller screen size res?

If anyone owns one of these that could tell me what they think on the gaming front it would be appreciated!

Thx :)

DVI is only rated up to 1920x1200. Dual-link DVI is a system designed to get around this problem by driving a higher resolution panel as if it was two screens, using both DVI connectors at once. The 3007 requires this and your 8800 will support it.

Not sure exactly what scaling modes the 3007 supports, sorry.

A friend has a 3007 and it's awesome. Wonderful viewing angles and strong accurate colours. As far as i know it stretches the incoming resolution to fill the screen too so you should be fine. Seen HL2 running at 1280x800 (4 screen pixels to a single gaming pixel) and it filled the screen!

Your GTX's will be perfect for it too (as far as i'm concerned it's pretty much the only reason to have 2 GTX's) as my mate only has a single x1900xt running his and it does fine. That card is pushed by the res but can just about run HL2 on it. :)

Enjoy it!

This is a popular misconception...the dual-link DVI cable is a single (fat) DVI cable, and the 8800GTX has 2 of these, allowing you to run 2 3007WFP-HCs from each card (although perhaps not in SLi mode).

Scaling is down to your video card, which the 8800's do fine with stretch-to-fit, aspect preservation (image as big as possible with horizontal OR vertical borders) or 1:1 pixel mapping (image centred on screen, typically borders horizontally and vertically).

Managed to get one today for £855.00 delivered brand new with a full 3 year Dell warenty! cant wait for it to arrive now! will post a pic onece i get it set up :)

That's a good price. Mine was £879 and I thought that was good at the time. But the savings keep on coming. I no longer need to go on holiday to get a nice tan. I just turn up the brightness a notch and save ££££ on expensive flights to sunny destinations. Bargain :D

You'll love it though :)

How about with a X1900?

With the current uncertaintly surrounding dead pixels and the fact that this screen has four million of the blighters, I'd be terrified of dropping the thick end of 900 quid on one unless I had an absolute guarantee there wouldn't be any.

I refused to spend £400+ on my 2407 without such a guarantee!

And thats Twelve million sub pixels :D
My Samsung is perfect, got lucky.

Sounds reasonable - can't believe Dell would offer a zero dead pixel policy on a panel with 4 million of the things as they'd lose a fortune replacing screens.

There are "middle-men" who will offer such guarantees though.

to be frank i would not touch the dell 3007-hc at the moment,

have been gone through a fair few of these monitors and can honestly say that most of them has a pinkish whites so if you are very sensitive in that department then maybe you should try the 30" samsung screen.

It seems that dell might have quality issues with these monitors.

That actually might have been where I picked it up - although worded in a manufacturer related way - glad it was corrected though. :)

Workmate got a 3007WFP off ebay for just over £500 - he seemed chuffed about it but I will wait for its arrival and his comments = I have not seen the auction myself but I am guessing there "Must" be something off with it if the seller let it sale at that price!

The max I'd go on a PC monitor is really 24" and no more, any more and standard videos (inc DVDs) would just look too low quality when viewed full screen considering almost everyone sits close to their PC screen (yes you, you pixel peeper!!!)

A 2407WFP would be an ideal upgrade from a 2007WFP I also feel!

3007WFPs have been very cheap since the HC version came out.

Are you just assuming that the quality will be terrible? You might be suprised...ffdshow and the like can beef DVDs up to near-HD quality.

I'm assuming it might be bad because there is something wrong with "that" one because the selller is selling it so cheap.
