Dell 3007WFP help? Any owners: advice would be appreciated

Hi there,
I acquired one of these at a reasonable price. However, my computer is not currently up to the task and won't be for the foreseeable future. As I understand it, the monitor has no hardware scaling so I can't run at odd resolutions (currently at 1280 x 800, bit of a waste on a 30"). Anyway, is there a way to run at a resolution such as 1920 x1200 with black bars at the sides and at the bottom?

All scaling has to be done by the video card, so if you're on nVidia then you can choose the best option for you (centred/1:1, maintain aspect, stretched output). Unsure about the ATi options.

ah, right. Anyone know about ati.
currently, using a 9800se but got a x800xt on the shelf if that would be any better

how do i do centered then. That's what I am trying to do isn't it. Have 1920 x 1200 in the middle of the screen. Can someone try it who does have an ati card with dual link?

The ATI drivers don't work very well at all, basically if you set it to centred output at a 1920x1200 resolution its basically passing the job over to the monitor, doesnt the 3007WFP support 1:1 pixel mapping in hardware?

Nvidia drivers inject the black borders in software, ATI doesnt and relies on the monitor supporting 1:1 pixel mapping in hardware. If the monitor does not support 1:1 pixel mapping (although I thought the 3007WFP did?) it will always stretch the image to fill the screen.

If you have the monitor cant you just try it? If you can set your Dell monitor to 1:1 pixel mapping in the OSD.

Nope 3007 doesn't support 1:1 or any other options given in the 2405.

fuzzy

Try

Digital Panel Properties>Attributes>use centred timings

He's prolly buggered then, ATI will pass it over to the monitor which will stretch the image even if set to "use centred timimgs". :(

I hope I am wrong but this has been a bug bear with ATI for many moons (and a big bug bear on the Rage3D forums).

Might be being silly but where would i find digital panel properties?

+ thanks for the help guys even if i am buggered.

The setting is in the catalyst control panel on advanced view. I don't know how to set it on tray tools as I cannot get crossfire to work with TT.

Centre timing will effectively give you 1:1 mapping

well, to anyone who is interested. It doesn't seem to be possible. I have tried 1:1 mapping with an FX5200 and it doesn't work.

The lack of proper control (esp compared to the 2405) is not mentioned, or even hinted, on the Dell website.

I have now found a home for my crossfire x1900 set-up and I am waiting for a 8800GTX!

The 2405 was a great screen, the pixel matching at 1080p was a sweet spot and the connectivity and OSD options made it feel so complete. The 3007 is initially a faff, and not being able to hook up anything except a dual-link graphics card is a real shame, but if you already have an HDTV and need to do serious multitasking then the space is invaluable.
