I got a new 5070 Micro from ebay a while ago and was using as a makeshift HTPC (essentially plugged into the TV with VLC).

All was fine until it suddenly stopped outputting and would instant-on when plugged in, i.e. no button press needed.

I've reseated RAM and replaced CMOS battery but to no avail - are these things known for sporadically dying?

I can't emphasise how easy a life it's had so this is strange, I've never had a machine inexplicably die before.

Any ideas what might be the cause or things I can try? No error codes either, just turns on and nothing happens.

We've had 100s of the HP equivalent (HP Desktop Mini) - most common failure we have had is the power adapters - might be worth a go.

Similar to above we use 100s of those Dells, that model and newer/older ones at work and many of them have a harder life than your average office environment, and they aren't known for dying. When there is a problem as above usually the power adapter but that is because people shove them around with little care because they aren't their property :( (and some even treat their property poorly).

Have you tried a different video out port? though it it is behaving oddly it is probably something more than that.

EDIT: IIRC these can get BIOS/firmware updates pushed through Windows Update maybe something like that failed.

I tried DP ports too, no joy.

If it's the PSU, is replacing likely to be enough or would the PSU have killed the machine permanently?

Sadly sounds like hardware failure but have you tried holding down power button for ~20 seconds? though removing CMOS battery should have same effect and more relevant to battery powered devices.
