dell 640m query

went to switch on today and the 3 like padlock lights come on for a few seconds then the hole thing goes dead after that so went to charge up but when i plugged the charger in the battery light flashes once then goes of,and after a while the charger is still cold were it use to get warm,is it the charger or battery that may of gone and is there any other way of charging it up cheers

does it power on when the battery is removed and so only the power cable is plugged in?

I am not sure but I think some laptops (if not all) would still work

no it wont power on,and thats with charger on its own and with battery in,well the 3 lights come on for a few seconds then goes blank again,and thanks for the help
