hi guys had a computer off a guy at work to look at he thinks hes got virus problems with it etc , he asked me if id have a look at it , its a bout four years old .
i plugged my saitek usb keyboard in and booted up the computer straight away before windows boots it asks for a admin password ,which i got . i cant put it in because it wont accept my usb keyboard so i thought ill try my old ps2 keyboard it wont accept that either ! now i havent had his keyboard yet but im puzzled beacause his is a logitech usb wireless keyboard and it works apparently and im wondering why it wont accept any of mine , any ideas ? oh by the way i cant even get in to the bios settings in the post to check settings etc

I dont know, thats odd that it wont even accept a PS2 KB. Did you deffernatly plug it in the right port?

Sorry to sound patronising but that's all I can think of.

I had something similar with a system at work...if the mouse works maybe try restarting it off the login screen with the keyboard plugged in?

An do some bios's have a option to enable usb keyboard or something? Sure i've seen some that do...

You have to leave it at the login screen for a few minutes, It will load USB support in the background when at the login screen. Also, make sure you have USB legacy support enabled in the BIOS

It sounds like you have plugged your keyboard in a different port to what he originally had his in. So Windows will need to reload the drivers for it.

Just leave it at the login screen for a few minutes, see what happens.

P.S - Maybe ur PS2 one has broken? Check the pins? or wrong port perhaps?

keyboard problems

yes it is isnt it , my mate swears it works with his keyboard which is usb , both the keyboards light up but the keys do not work , yes im sure i put it in right port , hes bringing me his keyboard monday so if i get no more info on the subject ill wait and see if his works

right bororob i tried what you said and left it 5 mins for drivers to load in for the kb but still nothing , i do get a hight pitched sound from the tower when i press the keys but they dont do nothing .
by the way the log in is during the post and not when windows starts up this problem is before windows starts to load , any ideas much appreciated

A high pitched sound would mean its in the wrong port? did u use the USB or PS2 one? A USB one shudnt do that.. Weird.. Im out of ideas sorry

Not sure what it is about Saitek keyboards, but I have a friend with an Eclipse 1 and 2 and NEITHER have worked in hiis current PC. No idea if it's a motherboard issue, driver, power or what. My Eclipse 1 and 2 both work in my PC without any hitches.

I would stay away from usb keyboards for the time being and just stick to ps2. Try another one that you KNOW works and make doubly sure you plug it into the correct (purple) port.
