It's common place for people to slate companies for poor performance etc. so i thought I would take the time to big one up for a change!

I ordered a Dell M1530 XPS from the Dell Outlet before Xmas and paid extra for a travel adaptor set.

The laptop has been perfect since its arrival but on the first use of the travel adaptor setup I recieved a warning that the adaptor only provided 65w and the laptop needed 90w, so the lappy would run on lower power settings.

I have been trying to sort this with Dell for about 14 days now over Xmas. It's no big deal, as the laptop works fine and though the battery takes longer to charge on the travel adaptor and it runs almost as if on battery settings, the performance loss is neglibile.

However in an attempt to resolve it so far, they have sent me another 90w standard PSU by accident and another 65w travel set which had a diffo product code. Neither solve the problem but they aren't wanting them back :D

Their next attempt is going to be to send me a Targus setup that is 90 watts, but tbh they only figured out today that Dell don't have an own brand 90 watt setup for the laptop, although they are looking at whether a more powerful one from the XPS Gen 2 will do the job etc.

So yeah they haven't exactly sorted the problem, but they are doing their best based on the limited information they can find at their end, and they never stop ringing me to update me and chek things etc, plus they all speak English (Scottish or Irish guys).

I always buy from Dell as a consumer rather than a business as you have so many more rights when things go bad, but you could mistake me for a business customer their help etc. has been so good.

So big thumbs up to Dell CS. Even if they can't find a 90w travel PSU that will work, it isn't a major issue, and I am happy.

Hopefully this won't be deleted for bigging up another company...OCUK sells Dell and they provide the warranty service.

What phone number have you been using to contact them? Do they still have their dedicated XPS support number? Reason I ask is that my warranty expires soon on my M1330 and I want my HDD changed before then, because my current one is noisy and slow.

Personally I've been thoroughly unimpressed with Dell's customer service lately; ordered a Dell XPS One on behalf of my parents, and they've managed to screw up virtually every step of the process, including the delivery address.

I had a DELL laptop many years ago and over the course of about 2 years, the whole system must have been replaced due to many faults.

I wouldn't ever go with DELL again as to me they are very unreliable and of bad quality.

My opinion though :p

I think you'll find you are in a minority.
I've had to use both HP and Dell's tech support for various hardware issues, and both have been mediocre. If you're extremely lucky you'll get a someone who is authorised to assign parts straight off and you can be off the phone in about 2 minutes.

Toshiba support is by far the worst, as they just have authorised repair centres, and have no involvement in supporting their own products. I think this says a lot about their faith in their own product.

Suffice to say, we no longer buy any Tosh equipment, and I never recommend them.

Heh Alienware (Dell) support is a joke too, been lied to, told conflicting stories etc whilst waiting for a part, was meant to be despatched 2 weeks ago, but still hasnt, refused to send temporary interim replacement if out of dtock of bit I need etc all after taking a 250 quid deposit on the parts. Bloody joke! Going back for refund shortly.

i assume it must be different support between consumer and business, since we have had zero issues with dell business support - even scheduling someone to visit a clients home during the christmas break to replace a faulty backlight on a laptop. haven't got a bad word to say about them to be honest.

I have the Business warranty on my laptop - had to swap out the DVD drive recently and I have to say I can't fault them on the service and the speed on delivery.

My studio 15 came a few days ago. Hard drives been making funny clicking noises and playing up so I called Dell up and told them about this, they're sending an dell "engineer" tommorow to replace the hdd :) And I'm on the very basic warrenty package that comes with the laptop. I was only on the phone with them for a few mins

I have to say the business side of Dell is great, we use and sell primarily Dell, however the home side of Dell is shocking if you ever have a problem.
