Hi All I,m looking at getting a 2nd hand Dell Laptop, but unsure which of these 2 to go for either the Dell D630 Latitude or Dell D820 Latitude ?anyone still using any of these today thanks:confused:

I have a D630 (T7250 cpu) supplied by work, not a bad laptop overall. Only real issue I have had is the lid hinges have snapped twice now, they loosen off and snap the casting.
Don't think it would be an issue under normal use though, I open and close the lid on mine 40+ times a day

Unless you neeed a big screen, I'd go D630 every time.

Dell will still sell corporate customers new D630's as it was the last of the D series Latitudes and if your company has spent tens of thousands equipping workstations with D-series compatible docking stations then you don't want to hear that they don't make them any more.

I did a contract at a multinational in September of last year and I was gobsmacked to be given a brand new D630 as my loaner laptop. It had a 128Gb SSD and 8Gb RAM in it running XP Pro and it was VERY quick.

As far as I'm aware all D630's have a SIM-card slot under the battery so you can fit the WWAN card and get 3G and GPS location without any external dongles. These cards are widely available for about £40 on ebay.

I have seen D-series latitudes with processors up to 2.5GHz so shop around and get a good spec one.

Thanks sounds like a good idea, also is the D630 a widescreen panel ? as i know the D820 has a widescreen panel.

D630 is also widescreen. nVidia chipset versions are still prone to video chip failure. They also tend to suffer from clogged heatsinks and then start overheating. Just keep the vents clear with a shot from an air duster every so often.

I owned a D820 and used a D620 at work for a couple of years, and found myself preferring the 15.4" display of the D820. I had one with a 1920 x 1200 which was much nicer to work on than the 1280 x 800 display of the D620. I believe there was a 1440 x 900 option for the D620 which would have helped even things up. I had a T7200, 4GB RAM and a Crucial M225 in it towards the end of my ownership, and it felt more responsive than the QX6700 system I use thanks to the SSD. The D820 is the favourite of the many laptops I have owned and used over the years, and I only sold it as I needed the money at the time. The D620/630 are so similar to the D820/830 that it's pretty much a choice of screen size/resolution and weight.
