So I posted here asking a few questions and then took the plunge and ordered all the goodies I could afford. A few people said the dell wouldnt take the enermax liberty psu a few said it might so I took the risk and ordered that too.

Today all the bits and pieces arrived and I got to work fitting them;

First out of the packaging another 1gb of ddr2 memory to go with the 1gb already installed. No problems thankfully.

Next up second SATA hard drive which installed in seconds. At this point I booted the computer up as wanted to check these two items were functioning. Dells BIOS recognised the amount of memory had changed and told me so then took me to the bios settings to ensure all things were correct. At this point I enabled the secondary SATA drive too.

Boot time seemed quicker but could just have been my eagerness. Then I found windows didnt see the second drive. After checking device manager had it installed I right clicked my computer and selected "manage" from here I could name and initialise my second hard drive as well as a quick format to ensure everything was good. Drive then showed fine and whilst computer was on I switched the pagefile across to the new drive (this gives speed increase in memory hungry applications).

Then powered down and opened up the case.

Next up. Whip out the old radeonx300 and slide in the saphire x1900gt; I couldnt believe the weight of this card and yes it has the new 1950 fan system on it....bonus!

Slot in the soundblaster audigy card. Nothing great but does all I could want it to.

Then came the PSU. I was kinda dreading this in case it went wrong but I had done my homework and kept reassuring myself it was fine. Unscrewed the dell PSU and placed it to one side. Opened up the enermax liberty PSU and was amazed at how well packed and presented it was. All the cables in a neat little bag, case stickers and even a free lanyard for keys and phone (if you like that sort of thing). The enermax PSU slid into the case as though it was made for it..screw holes lined up perfectly and all I had to do was plug the leads in and switch on.

I did take a quick photo....this is before the cables were tidied; oh and yes thats an exhaust fan at the bottom.

Powering on I actually held my breath and hit the power button. It started up flew through post and loaded windows without a care. Had an hour or so of installing drivers and removing the old ones then unpacked the new canon ip5500 printer.

I really can not believe how easy it all went in and how easy the whole thing was. Thanks OCuk for the nice prices even if delivery is kinda slow and thankyou dell for listening to customer feedback and going standard. I am now off to play BF2 for a bit and see how much better it looks.

:D

Good luck with that but please check the power supply connections etc. I done a lot of reading and googling before settling on what to buy. Damn satisfying when it all works though :)

My girlfriends dell is a nightmare, the PSU mobo connector is so sub standard i wouldnt even risk trying to upgrade it. she has a dimension 3100.

Her mobo doesnt even have an AGP!and only 2 PCI! How many Intel dual core machines dont have AGP or PCI-E?!?!? :confused: :mad:
