Ok, so i had to take my comp apart cos im selling it, so i dug up my old dimension 5150... last night it worked fine for hours on end, not a single issue.

installed the mouse drivers on it, creative xfi elite pro dirvers on it, restarted with those last night booted up fine.... all was great

this morning though, i go to turn it on and with any other HD it boots up (other meaning from another dell....) but with the current one, it gets to the safe mode menu where you select normal, last known... blah blah.... i dont press anything to get there btw, does it automatically. So anyway, no matter which i choose, it just reboots as soon as i press enter... as though everytime it tries to load the window files up the comp reboots...

any idea? as i REALLY need this to work, my job is depending on it lol

I hate it when they do that!

Have you tried booting from a CD/DVD and doing a repair or running chkdsk?

Would sound like a driver issue. Did it do any windows updates before that happened? I've seen that happen before. Repair install probably the easiest way to fix it I guess.

Yeah, only bought Dell once and it was my first and last.
Only problems I found with them was that the IDE cables were very fussy which connector you used on the ribbon, and also that it was fussy with what ATA drive you used. Cant remember but I think it preferred ATA133. I'm probably talking 6-8 years ago now.

Yea, i dont have the disk that came with it, so i can run the repair.

Also, i put in a bootable disk yet it still doesnt boot up from it and isnt on the boot up menu....

and yea, it tried doing 25 updates, but unfortunatly i had a powercut whilst it was halfway through, that was on a restart before i had it running for 8 or so hours straight the night before i turned it off

With a standard XP install (format... blah blah) would it still work? cos if i remember correctly, dells dont work like that, they need their own custom windows or something
