hi

a mate has the above machine. it was working fine until the other day when he tried to turn it on. there is no power now
all he is getting is an amber light on the power button, it wont power up when pressed. the monitor flashes up with the Dell logo but the bios does not appear.
i presume the power supply is ok because there is a light on the front and the monitor is on.
anyone seen or heard of this before?

ta

Are there any bleeps as the machines tries to boot? Are there anylights on the mobo? Can you hear the disks start to turn? If not then i does sound like a power supply problem.. Make sure the connections inside are good.

no beeps or anything. nothing powers up, however there is a light on at the front and the monitor comes on so is power not going through it?

i've since tried the hdd in my machine and it seems ok.

Sorry are you saying it's sorted?

He is saying the hdd is ok.

1) Try your PSU, could be a dead PSU

2) If its the same socket chips, swap them

3) Same with the mobo etc

4) Remove 1 ram module (if it has 2) visa verca

Check your Graphics card aswell. Make sure it's seated properly. Until you have eliminated key components such as the monitor/PSU/GC, then it's difficult to suggest anything else.
