Hi all family member recently picked up so called bargain at a car boot and as i am the only one in the family that does anything with pc's they have asked me to sort it out. I have windows xp back on just need the drivers for the thing and have tried the dell site and everytime i click download it keeps saying page cannot be found. Does anyone have the drivers or know somewhere reliable i can get them from so i can get rid of the damn thing and get back to my gaming :). Thanks in advance for any help.

Whats the Service Tag number? It will bring up the spec, so you can just go to the manufacturers site to grab the drivers (Realtek, Intel, etc).

You can get your drivers from the link below,:D

The service tag is just a serial number Dell give the computers, so you can identify it easily when you need to download drivers for example :)

It's usually on a white sticker stuck to the side panel of the computer near the top. Go to the driver download page and put in the service tag. It will show you all the drivers for your system.

If you get the page not displayed, chances are you have a browser problem at your end... or the dell site may just have been down for a bit, unlikely though.

Try a different browser, see if you get the same issue.

Do you have the specs? If not, use something like CPU-Z to pick up the motherboard details, then you can just get the drivers from the appropriate manufacturer sites.

I've repaired heaps of 8400s, I hate them all, but you should be able to get the drivers pretty easily. In fact, have you tried windows update? What drivers do you need specifically? Show us your device manager if you're not sure.

if you browse via the service tag it will remember it for next time too :-)
if you're struggling, I can download them for you and put them somewhere...

He meant the links to each driver, not the page itself.

OP, on the page try clicking on the name of the driver to go into the details page for it instead of clicking the download button to the right of the driver on the linked page.

There is a download button on the details page which works for me whilst the ones on the driver list page are more problematical.

Thanks for all the replys guys have finally mananged to get them :D main ones i needed were chipset, lan and audio gfx were easy as i knew they would be. For some strange reason the dell download manager that refused to work allday yesterday and day before suddenly came to life and they all downloaded in less then five minutes. Not sure why it wasn't working before maybe they had some downtime. Appreciate the help hopefully no one i know will ever get themself another "bargain" and i won't have this problem again lol.

Having a Dell myself, that download manager has always caused problems. It's better to use your browser to download Dell drivers, also I have seen it on the Dell Community Forums, were they recommend using your browser to download.

Yeah definately seems a flaky program not something i thankfully have to use so glad for that. Main problem was the specs i could find for the 8400 seemed confused were there more then one model in that range because there seemed to be three gfx cards it could have. End of the day it's why i build my own far more simple and easier to sort out lol.
