I'm trying to fix my uncles Dell Dimension 9200 Desktop PC and have found that the problem is that one off the hard drives is corrupt. From new it came with two identical 250GB hard drives running Raid. One of the hard drives has become corrupt and therefore it can't load Windows. If i take out the corrupt drive and just use the one remaing drive or take them both out and replace with a bigger single drive, how can i restore the operating system? It came with Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 and has the product key stuck on the case?

Regards

Phil

If the drives were in RAID1 then the working hard disk should still load Windows.

If the drives were in RAID0 then you'll need to reinstall Windows either onto the good drive or onto a new one.

To reinstall you'll need a Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 installation disk and use the product key on the case.

Yep. remove the duff HDD and see if the system boots. It it does then it was in RAID1. If it doesn't boot, it was a RAID0 array.

If that is the case, everything on the RAID0 will be lost and you'll need to reinstall the OS on to the working HDD.
