I have a e520 of which was a gift, i want to upgrade it so i can play some games on there,at the moment its onboard graphics, so thats no good, it has a 305w power supply and a pci-e slot, i tried fitting a 7900gto but it was too big and wouldnt fit because of the dell mobo layout, the processor's fan was gettin in the way so i'm going to need a card that will fit, i was wondering if anybody knows what the best card i could get for the machine would be, also what power supply would work in this machine, as i've heard some dell's require certain power supplys, being as it wa sa gift i cant just sell it and build another i'd really like to upgrade it

Thanks in advance

That's the inside of the case :p

for anybody wondeirng i've just bought a Sapphire X1950Pro 256MB GDDR3 DVI TVO HDCP PCI-E Graphics Card, i will keep u posted and let you all know if it works

That layout isnt too smart of dell :P

if i were you i'd build a new system, that looks more hassle than its worth, especially with a pooey power supply.

Get some more info about the components inside and we can go from there.

I'd cancel your order. The X1950 Pro's PCB is just as long as the 7900GTO's. Was the PCB of the graphics card getting in the way of the cpu cooler and duct or was it just the 7900GTO's cooler?

The cooler was sticking out quite a bit.

I have this exact system.

I'm running a 7600GT (256MB) by Point of View. It's short enough to fit in easily, and doesnt need any extra power so you dont have to faff with cable or worry about the PSU not having enough juice when the system gets a bit older.

Along with the E4300 and 2GB Ram its fantastic :)

If you want a higher-end card I'm not sure what to recommend. I've heard of people using 7900GS's in these machines so it is possible.
For info, the system gets about 13,500 in 3Dmark03 so its not exactly a slouch :)

i've read a few forums anda review of where i bought it from, saying they have it in there e520, if it dont fit i'll send them it back, if they wont take it i'll sell it on n will have 2 have lost a few quid

been doing some more research on the web seeing if anybody else has put X1950Pro 256MB in a e520, and i've found 3 people who have said that they have the card and it fits so fingers crossed, if it doesnt fit well, what can i say i'm screwed

Oo totally missed this thread. I have a 7950GT i can go test in the old dell we have downstairs. Its not the same exact model but looking at that pic its the exact same thing.

Let me know if you would because its a long walk downstairs :(

if its not too much trouble could you test it out? also does any one know if the power supply is a standard atx or if its somthing else, i dont wanna blow it by putting a normal power supply in, i have a 500 watt power supply here, although its a 20pin not a 24pin

That Dell psu has to be ATX2 compliant, no two ways about it. They used to be pretty bad in that sense but more recently they've cleaned up their act regarding psus.
