Hi i have a dell G5 desktop I7 10th Gen with a gtx 1660ti graphics card and a 500w psu (P/N -0Y7R0X)
I want to upgrade to a gtx 3070 card or better.
I believe i will need to upgrade to 750w psu first, but am finding it nigh on impossible to get onformation or an easy option to replace (dell forum is not helpful)
1-is it vital i upgrade psu? (outervision.com Recommended PSU Wattage:362 W)
2- any pointers on where to source or what to do?

Thanks

Ideally, you need the service manual, because that will tell you what kind of PSU it is. Alternatively, if you can get the motherboard number, you can check that.

From the model number you gave, it looks like the PSU is a non-standard design, so it might only be a Dell (or compatible) model that you can replace it with.

What power connectors does the PSU have available? (for the graphics card)

I don't know what wattage that model is capable of sustaining, I think Dell PSUs tend to be decent, but the problem with RTX cards is not the average consumption, it is the massive spikes (up to 400 watts for a 3070).

It'll be a slightly modified TFX form factor PSU with 12VO output. It would certainly need to be replaced for a 3070.

You can fit an SFX power supply in there but you would need to DIY a 24 pin to 6 pin adapter to power the motherboard. Then you can use the PCI power to the GPU as normal. But with this you certainly need to know what you are doing.

The trouble with later dells is they can often tell the psu is not standard and will not boot i had this exact problem a couple months ago with a dell 3630 psu was duff and i fitted a seasonic 500w would it boot nope well some times i could get it to so i tried a 650 seasonic nope i managed to get a psu for another model of dell but same wattage, plugs and that worked fine.
