My m8 pays the subs for blueyonder but by the sounds of it has been unable to use the internet for the past 2 months due to spyware ect.
Hes got a Dell optiplex gx100, pentium 633Mhz, 128Mb ram it said on the sticker on the front (I may have wrote it myself when I went there b4).
I took some ram from a p5-133 (which I use to use the base unit to add some height to my old CRT).
I assumed they were both pc-100 SDR but when I tried swapping the ram, no post.
Is it EDO ram?
I really dont think he should be trying to run windows xp on such a box.
I did a blueyonder pc-guard virus scan and it took 1h 2min.
Id think it would take a whole day to reinstall the OS?
The last thing Ive thought of is trying to use one of those programs which condence window xp pre-installation.
ATM, Ive left him knowing how to press ctrl-alt-delete and killing a few of the larger spyware processes, and getting round the browser loop which was preventing him from using the internet.
I offered to keep an eye out for a box more capable of running win xp but he said he might get one from his girlfriend's stepdad.
He bought this box and all the necessary peripherals (inc 15" CRT), for £75; I told him he was ripped off.
