I've recently scrounged an optiplex gx620 with a half decent spec..
Pentium D 830(3Ghz), 3Gb of 533mhz DDR2 and I've bought an 8800gt to run on this and have my first ever gaming machine
Now like everyone one else, my fps for Crysis is not as much as Id like which made me think about OCing this box. Problem is, its a Dell, custom PSU, not sure the bios gives me any options, and I have not got a clue who makes the motherboard, so do not even know if I can overclock my RAM, but hell, this could be fun.
Im asking the more experienced OC'ers out there - is it worth trying to OC this box, how much headroom is there, as I know these CPU's run hot? Dell builds are custom and for business, so will that limit me? I am aware that any improvements are liable to be small, as it is old tech and bus speeds have moved on etc etc
If I can play around without spending too much, I will, otherwise am I better off flogging the box and using the cash to get new parts towards an AMD spider or Intel quad rig?
At best I am only looking at this to tide me over for a year or so until I can build something else - now I have a gaming rig - there is no going back!!!
Thought I'd throw it out to the community and see what the feedback was, I can imagine a few techies out there shaking their heads...
I await with interest
Many Thanks
