Dell inspirion 1525 slow

ok first of all we were getting problems loading up and installing software.....now there are dlls missing...i tried to reinstall windows 7....its taking forever to do it....my suspicions is the hdd faulty.....anyone got any ideas thanks

If you can get windows up and running download HD Tune which can run a performance test and check the hd for any errors.

hd tune ill try its still on the starting windows screen it has been for 20 mins now hdd light flashes though.

ok ive tried different memory still the same...nothing more i can try on a laptop lol

ok using the dell diagnostics and was right i think it says
error 0142 msg error 200-0142 hdd 1 self test unsuccessful
just gonna google it now lol

yep just googled the code and it is the hdd...its a seagate momentus drive.....can i use another make say western dig or hitachi?

Yes any other make will be fine, one thing you will need to check is the size of larger hd's, ie 600gb ones ect.

it has a 160gb in and she doesnt even fill a quarter of it so ill get a similar size to replace.
