Quick RAM upgrade question, just to put my mind at ease really having never upgraded laptop RAM before, plus its for a friend so want to get it right.

It currently has 256MB of PC2-4200 RAM in there which I intend to remove. Will pretty much any 200 PIN SO-DIMM be OK? Was wanting to put in 1GB - so would either of these be acceptable for instance (first a 4200 stick, second a 5300 stick)?

If so, which would you recommend? The corsair at 4200 but with tighter timings or the 5300 Crucial?

I would buy the crucial.

Its cheaper, and never ever had any issue with Crucial.

Don't worry about timings etc, its hardly a top of the range laptop just chuck any old ram in.

Crucials website recommends PC2-5300 for this system.

I'd be tempted to put 2gb in, its very little extra cost.

Yeah - I found that a few mins ago to. Think that's what I'll go for. Thanks for the reply :)

That machine won't support Dual channel, so you may as well leave the existing 256mb in there as well.

Fine. I'll try it with both sticks in. If it plays along without hiccup then I'll leave it in :)
