I have had this laptop for just over two years now. Over the last year it has been slowly getting worse and worse. Anyway, as I want to get into PC gaming I am soon going to be building a gaming PC. I would however still want my laptop for taking to places/internet browsing/Some school work.

Now some of the problems include:

If a youtube video is streaming and I minimize the window, the computer will often freeze. This is more likely to happen the longer the computer has been on. If it is more on for more than 4 hours then it is almost guaranteed it will freeze. I must then turn off and back on again for it to work.

The battery refuses to charge 99% of the time meaning it must be plugged in whenever in use. Maybe 4 times in the last year, it has charged all the way to full but through various circumstances e.g. wire getting pulled out without me realising. It always gets back down to 0% charge.

Generally, it is incredibly slow.

Anyway, When I get my new computer I can transfer all needed data on to that which basically means I can do whatever to my laptop in order to get it back in working order.
Also the charging problem isn't the battery, this charges fine in my sisters identical laptop.

What can I actually do then? Would Linux be a better OS for the things I am planning to use it for? Would this possibly fix some of the problems? Is there some quick/easy/free/cheap way to fixing the charging problem? I have seen it is quite common in these laptops but there is about 20 different 'sure-fire ways of fixing'

Basically if anyone has actual experience with this laptop it would be a great help.

I own one and have fixed numerous. To be honest a change in OS isn't going to help, your board likely needs replacing. As for the freezing, check your temps and maybe look at the heatsink if its dusty etc.. but since its got charging issues i'd reckon its a goner.
