I know this is a software issue.

Basically my dad has a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with windows XP loaded, he has DIVX and XVID installed and the pack to get dvds to play through Windows media player, however when he plays the DVD, when it goes through the trailers etc, the sound is fine, when it comes to play the main film, the sound gets so quiet, you can hear sound throgh the speakers but its like a whisper, all volumes are up etc. Iv tried a few dvds and all do the same.

Normal sound though windows is fine. Its just on "Main film" dvd playback, any idea's?

if i plug external speakers in it does the same so must be software related (im pretty sure he has the correct sound drivers)

Hmm, perhaps there is a sound channel issue. Maybe the trailers are in stereo and the problem begins when Media Player loads the main multi channel soundtrack. Have you tried any other players beside WMP? What about VLC?

Iv tried media player classic, iv got a copy of powerdvd here which i might send him, but just wanted to see if there is anything else I can try.

Any more info greatly appriciated :)
