I've been using Dell laptops for over 15 years (Jesus, am I really that old?) and have generally been really pleased with them. I recently bought an XPS 15z and am a little annoyed by the battery; it is fixed in place with proprietary security screws (presumably so that cheap replacements from the bay can't be installed when their expensive units fail).

Are all their new laptops installed like this or just this series or...?

I've got a xps 15 and its just a normal removable jobbie... you skrewed yourself over going for the Z apparently they arn't even built as well sorry to say

I only ever use business grade Dell laptops (Latitudes), but on every one of them I've ever used the batteries are your normal removable jobbies :).

Is the XPS 15z Dell's version of the 4mm thick MacBook Air? I know on that Apple made the battery non user removable to save space in the chassis.

Thanks for the comments.

I haven't noticed any decrease in build quality - where did you hear that?

I chose the 15z because it was lighter - it would seem that sacrifices needed to be made.... :(
