Dell laptop broke again -.- *solved*

Hello guys,

I have a Dell XPSL502x had it for about a year now, it was a Dell outlet certified referb one.

One month ago the Hard drive failed ( WD black) So i replaced with this hard drive See here I did not get the drive from OCuk through as at the time OCuk was a bit pricy for the said drive.

Moving on I get the first one and install it into my Dell all was well, till two weeks later it got a fault so I RMA'ed that and failed thier testing too.
So I get another one, and I just installed it literly and i can't install windows, windows does not see it :eek: Even strange the BIOS DOES see it and so does the laptops preboot software and it pasted all tests.

I have never had that issue were the BIOS sees the drive but windows don't its never done that before. Only time I can think of was when I had a raid but that was easy to sort.

Is there something missing? or Does my dell need a kick out the window  Cos thats how i feel right now.

To start out with I forgot I had the SATA on ATA mode :embrassed: changed it back to AHCI (think thats right) and took the hard drive out to reset it and reseted it and I still can't install windows with ethoir disc :( both are proper install discs non of this copied **** :p

One thing did cross my mind regarding the optical drive, but it passes tests too so I m at a lost here.

Kind Regards
Amg

hello cheers for the replys

A desktop is not possible as the linux one is too old for SATA, and my gaming machine is in the garage parked up :p

So I can put it in another laptop but its a pain in the neck, while I m at it see how it bahaves with the other laptops HDD..

Also my BIOS is A12 (latest)

I just had a brain wave thinking of linux, I could live USB boot my dell to see if it can see the hard drive ( I can't see why it can't) the laptop KNOWS its there just the pre windows installation don't see it

Hello, the linux idea failed because this time it was not the hard drives fault, in fact it was not the laptops as such...It appears I am VERY unlucky and my optical drive decided to misbehave too. I tried the dell with a known to work hard drive with the OS already installed, it booted stright onto windows, now if there was a issue with SATA that would not have happened..

so i put in my genuine windows DVD, put it to the pre installation and guess what it can't see the drive again, mean while my seagate was in another laptop with the seatools and it passed all tests.

Also my dell as pre boot software installed someware on it dunno were through, anyways it coughed up a optical drive error. Just once, i reseated the optical drive that error went away but the same symtoms

I forgot to add, the reason why the linux idea failed was becasue the laptop froze ( or it was taken wayy too long to load up the files needed for a live boot) and sometimes for some reason the laptop acted like there was no CD in the drive probably cause the drive was dodgy lol

Hello, update. Thanks to those that had some input..

The laptop is back up and running again, the new optical drive was damage when royal mail put it through the letter box so it will be sent back...I managed to get windows install via a external DVDRW.

in short yes the optical drive was at fault, and is getting replaced when I get its replacement back.

Thank you to those that helped out again and have a nice night.
