After a few months of debating, I've decided on a Dell Inspiron 1525 (Macbook was too expsensive). I use to see "Double Memory" offers all the time, or similar hardware upgrade offers. Do they still do these? is it worth waiting?

Its always worth calling them rather than buying online unless you've got some great discount codes etc. Haggle with them, even if it means calling back a couple of times, you're pretty much guaranteed a better price.

They wouldn't haggle with me at all they said it was already discounted and even if she applied more discount the order wouldn't go through

They try that. Hang up and ring back, speak to someone else :)

I hear about haggling with them quite a lot, how you you start it?

I'm crap at haggling but wouldn't mind a laptop for my parents.

To start off, pick a similarly specced/priced laptop from another manufacturer, call up and Dell and enquire about the laptop you want. Mention that you're looking at whatever competitor's laptop etc and play from there. Don't always take their first offer, say that you'll think about it and maybe call the other company and compare, or look for comparisons on the web. They'll usually add some more discounts. Rinse and repeat :)
