Hey guys, I'm lookin into gettin a new laptop, the cost probably would be a max of £1000, but if i can get cheaper then that would be great.

I want to be able to carry from home to uni (30 min walk) without it killing my back, be solid enough to be flung in and out of my bag, so small *** be gd but big enough to hav a keyboard to program in.

I want to be able to run several program at a time without the computer holding up (Music, instant messenger, text editor and terminal).

Finally i just want an all rnd solid laptop, i am very tempted to get a mac, but at the same time im a linux boy, so dunno if i would want a mac since it jus feels like im spendin a lot for the OS and brand.

Did start lookin at Dell XPS but i have no idea *** laptops are gd, so *** do u guys reckon??

Thanks in advance for any opinions

we use a lot of dell latitudes at work. mainly the D6xx and D8xx series.

i currently have a D820 centrino core2 2.16GHz with 2gb and cannot fault it at all.

Dell XPS M1330. Far cheaper than the MacBooks and still very solid (quite a lot of metal used in them too). Using one right now, actually.

Yeah, buy the Windows version, then uninstall windows and stick Linux on it. For some reason only known to Dell their Linux machines are far more expensive than the Windows ones.

You should be able to get that spec above about £570 with a windows machine.

The macbooks are no doubt sexy, but for the same money you can get so much more with an XPS 1530.

For the same money as an apple, you can get an XPS with a blu-ray drive, a gaming graphics card, 250gb hard disk, the works!

(im an obviously biased XPS owner)
