i have a vostro very high spec but it seems to be runnign very slowly is this problem with all dells as my friend is experiecing slowness on a new laptop. i have not realy downloaded much and am seriously considering re formattting 3 weeks after purchasing. anyone have any reccomendations

I had an Insprion 1501 dualcore Turion, 2GB RAM, XP and it was a sloth. I think it's a power problem - lack of it. I got rid and pimped my desktop out instead. lol

Has it still got the pre installed dell version of Windows on it?

Im using a D620 that was reformatted, runs like a dream. but having recieved, reformatted and reinstalled about 100+ laptops in the last year, the standard Dell build just seems to run slow for no reason. Reformat with a clean instal and you will be fine!

as stated above if you want the best performance form a dell laptop, reformat it day one and re-install from the xp/vista disc [should be in a sealed bag with a booklet for the os]

upon re-installing os, load the device drivers from dell device drivers disc you also should have got.

Does anyone know how I delete the crappy Dell MediaDirect partition? Ive currently got 3 partitions. recovery, OS and mediadirect.

If your going to reinstall windows (assuming the dell instal disks give you the standard XP/Vista menus) you can delete partitions then.

How recently have Dell started shipping the CD with their laptops cause I have a 6400 bought around 18months ago and I got no CD.

I always wondered what happens if my HD gives up suddenly and I don't have access to the recovery partition?

About 12 months ago, I believe. My 630m (also about the same age as yours) didn't come with an OS disc as standard, but I specified one for an extra fiver.

Ah sod that. I never noticed the option for an additional OS CD.

Does anyone know if it possible to get the CD after this length of time?

when i got my dell laptop, there was an option to create a recovery CD. They did not actually supply the CD direct. But this will load all of the software you are trying to get rid of.
