Hi,

Ive installed the dell laser into my netgear router and installed dells software to reconizes it on the network but it wont print.
I've got it in the printer folder with the network thing on the icon but nothing prints out. What can I do?

If you create a TCP/IP printer port and install the driver, does it print then?

The Dell software is pretty curd.. not that I found the re-badged Lexmark printers any better, but that's another story.

I dunno I Put in the printers IP address whilst installing it in dells software.

Sorry, I should have said - ignore the Dell software for now.

Go into the printers bit of control panel, add a new printer, local port, create new port (standard TCP/IP) and give it the IP that the printer has.

What model is it?

Does it have its own print server built in? Or are you using a print server?

Can you print a status sheet directly from the printer to make sure its in the right subnet?

Is DCHP enabled or did you set it to a static IP?

Can you ping the printer and get replies?

Its a dell 1710n with network, its linked up to a netgear router 834pn

I will try the generic one in a moment. I have printed a sheet via the printer itself and found that I am using the right ip address and subnet.

I have no idea about DCHP or static IP. Havnt tried to ping the printer yet.

DHCP = Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - what I expect you're using in this case. It other words, you didn't setup the IP address on the printer, it grabbed one automatically from your router. The function on the router that dishes out IP addresses is called a DHCP server.
