Old laptop I know but its great, perfect for what I need it for:)

I was just wondering if I can downgrade the CPU? it's got a 2.4ghz pentium M in it atm which keeps the fan spinning which can get quite loud, sucks battery power too!
or maybe underclock it?

Noise is the main problem as being honest, battery life is great. I got rid of the cdrom for a secondary battery so it seems to last forever:p

Yeah looks like speedstep is on here. I've already got a decent PC badger.

Are we saying that Dell C640's cpu is not changeable, and is soldered onto the motherboard? Whats a 770?

edit: ok so 770 is a different socket. Couldn't I just change it with this for example? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Mobile-...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
