Tried to switch on my laptop today (provided by my employers) and it did not turn on, tried with mains as well and nothing, no lights, completely dead, tried holding down the power button and nothing!

I have had it about 2 years and looked after it well.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Try removing and then refitting the battery.

I've seen a couple of Dell laptops do this at work and popping the battery out and then back in has brought them back to life.

try pressing this whilst the system is off - FN + Power button.

this will load a diagnostic partition if this doesn't load have a look at the num, scroll and key lock leds they will flash with a code.

Try again but leave it for 10 minutes. I used to get exactly the same problem. The only cure was new motherboards.

I have just been informed today by our IT helpdesk that Dell say it is the motherboard - I guess it might be quite a job for dell changing the m/b:D

dell say ~7 days
