im seriously looking at either of these laptops unless someone can suggest a better one thats out now or coming out shortly. only problem is that im stuck on which one to get. iv seen the 1330 in my local pc world and and it is rele nice and small and light. havent actually seen the 1530 in person. the advantage of the 1330 is that its smaller and somewhat more mobile, but the 1530 is more powerful and has a higher resolution screen which i like.

also im a little worried about these nvidia gpu issues. i was considering getting 3 year warranty and that should pretty much cover me.

what do you people suggest?

thanks

The 1330 has serious issues with cooling its 8400gs gpu unless you modify it (easy to do but voids warranty) and I've not heard of any 1530's having any gpu issues.

being a m1530 owner, I'd suggest the m1530 :)
Seriously. How much are you going to carry it around? I go back and forth between work everyday, a nice 40 min walk with it and powercable and razer diamondback mouse in my backpack. more exercise is better for you anyhow :p

Haven't had a problem with my 8400gs (laptop in sig), haven't modified it. Runs like a dream.

Great laptop, the screen size is perfect, also lightweight, 9 cell battery lasts around 6+hrs.

I have the m1330 and I have no graphics issues. The real graphics problems is not caused by Dell, but poor graphics chip manufacturing and it effects the 8600 GT in the M1530 as well. I have updated the graphics bios to help with the problem , I think, by increasing the fan speed.

Had my m1530 for about a month now. Very nice bit of kit, running Vista 64bit with 4gb of ram no problem at all. Got it hooked up to my 32" LCD via HDMI playing some CS:S was very nice indeed.

You wouldnt want a notebook any bigger than a m1330 if you are planning on carrying to work and back. It's fairly big as it is- the m1530 will be major pain carrying it about.

im starting uni, and so need it for that. to be honest im not really going to be having with me all the time.

murney how did u get vista 64bit? via dell or you purchased it yourself and isntalled it?

thanks

I would say if you are not going to be carrying it around much go for the 1530 (although I have a 1330 myself). The extra screen space will be useful - try to spec one with the LED display.

if im buying from outlet, how will i know if its a led dis[play? will it say truelife?

If buying the M1330, look for the 0.3mp Web Cam, they had to make them smaller then the standard 2mp version to fit the thinner case.

Truelife is on all types of screen, I think its just the reflective coating.

Not sure about the M1530.

To get the higher res screen on the M1530 you need to look for WXGA+ (1440x900) or WUXGA (1920x1200) Not WXGA (1280x800)

so all the higher resolutions such as 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 will definantly have an led display?

thanks

I'm not sure if the M1530 comes with an LED display, the main site does not seem to indicate any of the options are LED only.

I have an 8400gs in my 1330 and i play WoW all day whilst listening to music and talking on skype with laptop sat on desk and never go over 60 degrees on any component so dont think the gpu issue is with every 1330.

If you want mobility get the 1330, it can still do pretty much everything if you get a decent spec.
