So after about 2-3 years my laptop is starting to die. It had some problems with wifi before but its seems to be better and at times it hags at start up. However now I have some what of a bigger problem I have a green line stright down the middle of a the screen which doesnt disapper and I was wondering if there was something I could do to fix this.

Also I was thinking to get a new laptop with similar or better preformace, currently have 2.1 C2D, 4gb ram, 320gb HDD, 8600GT. Ive heard some good things of the new AMD chips and I was wondering if it was worth the wait, I would spend around £400- £500.

Yeah, this doesn't sound like the gpu problem. Could be a fault in the lcd cable, but probably a duff screen. As advised, try an external monitor.

Works on a external screen, and after a bit of shaking its seems to get better. My friend said its a problem with the lcd cable which it seems to be. Just wonder how difficult is it to get to the cable so i can put it back in properly.

Thanks for the help so far guys much appreciated

I think I had same problem on an older Inspiron, Dell had it back and replaced the cable as was under warranty at that time.

I've got the M1530 now too and just spotted this guide that might help show where everything lives?

Thanks a lot of that, me and my friend should try to fix this over the weekend i hope sadly ive had this for almost 3 years and my warranty finished along time ago.
