Dell M1530 (T7500) & Vostro 1500 (T7300) do these benefit from PC-6400 (800Mhz) memory? or is it better to got for PC2-5300 (667Mhz) memory?

Looking to get 2x2Gb to take system up to 4Gb. (I know with 32-bit I'll only see between 3.25-3.5Gb)...

All info welcome before I make my mind up..

All sp1 does is let you know how much is installed. Not how much windows is registering. It will still register about 3.2-3.5 gb of ram if it's a 32 bit operating system, same as always.

They made sp1 do that to stop people whining about where their RAM went after installing 4gig.

Typical MS coverup...

:D Just stops average Joe getting confused as to why his computer has 3.2 GB of ram not 4 GB he bought, makes sense. IMO you won’t see much of a difference bar memory benchmarks, if you can get it at a good price maybe :p

my lenovo with 4gb pc6400 ram runs at pc5300, its running at cas 4 mind, uses the same intel 965pm chipset as dells, but it could be a bios feature?

Thanks, so I reckon the 965pm chipset only support upto pc5300 speed. Anyone got any info on pc2-6400 mem in the vostro 1500 or m1530?

Don't waste your money on pc6400, it isn't supported and will revert back to pc5300.

800mhz ram will be supported when the platform gets a revision and moves over to ddr3.

Ah I didn’t realise 965M only runs at PC5300, just checked mine and its running at PC5300 :( I would have thought the 965M chipset was just about the same as desktop variants guess not.

Cheers, managed to pick up some branded PC2-6400 (800Mhz)for £26.50 delivered which is about the same price or less than I'd have paid for PC2-5300 (667Mhz),

If anything I reckon I'll benefit from the slightly tighter CL4 rating of this memory at 667Mhz speeds.

Thanks All.
