My nephew wants to buy a netbook to use in uni. He has said he likes the Dell Mini 10v one. Now, looking at the specs and pricing i see there is one for approx £200 bar a penny. It comes with an 8gb ssd drive. Can this be removed and then replaced with a mechanical 2.5 Hard drive?

I know it also has a linux OS but he could 'have' one of my win 7 retails i bought as i have 2. Plus i am assuming the ram could also be upgraded on it too?

I'd also like to know more about the sub £200 smackers models. They look nice and thin, but I've always avoided the big D like the plague as I've repaired so many terrible desktop PCs of theirs. Why are they so cheap?

I think the SSDs are connected via mini pci-e in a similar way to the eee pcs with SSDs, so I'm fairly sure the hard drive would not be a straight swap.

The Ram can be upgraded, but there's no access doors so it does involve dismantling the entire chassis. It's not that hard but it is fairly tedious, there's a few vids on youtube showing the process.

You could have a look on the dell outlet if you don't mind a refurbished one, they're selling dell mini 10v's with the 160GB hard drive and XP for £192.11.
