My Dad has a Dell Inspiron which he bought in 2005 for his work, and although it can be considered old now, it suits his needs.

He has recently picked up a IBM Lenovo, which is obviously a far better spec than the Dell, but what I wanted to find out is whether he should swap over to the IBM?

(He is planning on sending one of the laptops to India to one of his friends, but he is trying to decide which one)

I know nothing about IBM laptops, so I am relying on you guys for some feedback please :)

Aren't Lenovo's regarded as one of the best for reliability and businesses etc?

Both Dell and IBM make excellent laptops. I'd just go for spec and price; and whichever comes out best.

The Dell's built for business (Vostro, etc.) tend to feel solider than those built for the home market; but I don't know whether they are actually any tougher.

Lenovo make excellent laptops with magnesium alloy shells and I think the newer ones have keyboard drainage.

Dell's Latitudes and Precisions are robust with metal shells but I'd imagine their Inspirons are made from pretty poor plastic.
