Having a bit of nightmare with my Dell Precision 370.

I managed to break/damage one of the front usb connectors and now the machine errors on start up. Error beeps and 2 of the 4 front LED's (ABCD) are now amber instead of green.
The machine won't boot so I'm looking for a replacement front panel I/O card which will hopefully fix the problem.

Does anyone have a good contact for Dell parts??

Part Number is: R3772 REVA00

cheers,

You can contact Dell direct on 0870 908 0800. Dunno how much help that'll be to you though.

Does this break the rules? Appologies if so.

We had the same on a dell a few days back, yanking the front IO board's connector solved the problem and will be a hell of a lot cheaper than paying dell.

You can disconnect it but the board also controls the front power button so you can't power on the machine when it's disconnected, really annoying!

If there is a way of stopping the machine from doing it's boot checks so it won't check if the USB sockets are connected then that may help but I can't even get it to boot to the BIOS screen.

If it were me i'd work out the wires that related to the PSU/reset button and remove the others from the connector block. The last Dell I upgraded had a similar bespoke PCB for it's reset/power buttons and LED's, I ended up chopping the wires and soldering on standard connectors from an old case, worked perfectly but it was a faff, only did it as the person concerned wouldn't cough up the cash for a new case, shame as the old beige towers were FUGLY in 1998 let alone 2007. Also had to dremel the back plate to squeeze the onboard sound connector in... Thanks a lot Dell!

Thanks Avalon. I'll have a poke around 2nite and see if I can come up with a fix. It's annoying that one failed USB port and take down the whole machine!!
I don't mind loosing the use of the USB's or the LED's and it's got to be better than forking out ££ to Dell.
The machine was bought from my old workplace when it closed the office and only cost me £50 with a TFT! (P4 3.0, 2gig RAM etc)
I've added a second SATA drive and also a PCI-e MSI 7900GTO and it runs everything I want perfectly so I want to get it fixed.

I've found the part on an American site for $89 so that gives me a guide price if I managed to find one in the UK.

£50, nice! Almost worth paying the money for the part you need, purely because the system was so cheap in the first place.

Good luck getting it sorted.

yeah exactly, I know I got bargain so it's defientley worth fixing as it's been a cracking machine since I put the 7900GTO in it.

Cable snips and soldering iron at the ready 2nite I think!! wish me luck

update: There's no way i can just unplugged the USB connectors. The cable from the front I/O board to the motherboard is a ribbon cable so no real way of seperating out the USB connectors from the power switch. Shame.

Got a reply back about a replacement board and it's going to be £35 ex VAT which isn't too bad so I'll go with that and fingers crossed the blown USB hasn't caused anymore problems.

Sorry to thread hijack, but you wouldn't happen to have an X-Fi soundcard thats connected to the front I/O ports in your Dell? I'm trying to find the part number for the cable so i can get one for my non-dell system and have my front headphone and mic ports working.

£50 for those specs & a tft? You got it lucky there!!

I would have just bought another case if it was £35exc, not v much more, probably look better too, althought i guess dell designs aesthetically aint THAT bad
