hi,

just bought a 2850 off the bay, it didnt come with a CD rom drive so i want to install vmware esxi on it via a bootable USB stick, however i can't seem to get it to work... :/

can anyone tell me how to do this?

cheers

thanks for that,

sorry if i didnt make it clear in the OP but the server doesnt even recognise the USB drive, it only gives the option to boot from the HDD :/

thanks

yes it is strange, i dont have a cd drive that will fit :/ and i dont have any money atm, ANY.

so sorta really need to install from USB, will try and external HDD in a sec

right,

managed to get it to boot from and exrternal HDD, couldnt get esxi to install, but i managed to get SBS 2008 to boot, it gets past the 'windows is loading files'

but after it has loaded the files it BSOD's before it gets to the GUI, with and error message about security acounts system?

i cant remember the exact error, will have a look when i get home from school, i have googled it and tried what some people suggested of changing the HDD, but this made no difference.

any ideas?

cheers

right progress, ive managed to get past the error somehow, but now after the vista loading splash screen (the green lines going acorss the bar) its just goes to a black screen, the signal is still there because the TV doesnt go into standby, but it is only black... :/

help?

cheers

err south of london.... thanks for the offer :L

yeh i heard that :/ i think its probably just me not copying it over properly

omg right, now i have managed to get it to boot the esxi installer but, i get a 'fatal out of memory' error when its loading cim.vgz???

argh this is annoying me :(

right getting an error when trying to install ESXI now.

ive managed to get past my original error and it boots the installer, but after you confirm the directory to install it in and you hit F11 to install, i get this IMMEDIATE error

'The installation operation has encountered a fatal error:
Unable to find the system image to install. this is due to the image not being mounted correctly or the CD-ROM not being supported.'

I'm assuming this means ive got a bad mem stick or files?

any help?
