I'm looking for opinions between the above two Dell ranges of desktops.
Both seem to be available in a variety of high specs.
Are there any disadvantages for going for the Precision models?

General gaming and office use required, with some large file processing and storage.
Thanks in advance.

EDIT - The title should say 'vs'. I can't find a way to edit the title!

That's prietary or some rarer standard PSU and case and all fans look rather small.
Motherboard is also some proprietary/non common form factor.
And case cooling relies on trusting for air to keep moving.

XPS again can't cool any high end CPU properly with no space for heatsink and case cooling is somewhere between critically endangered and extinct.

For positive things coming into mind from them...
I guess both can be reused as paper weights and door stop.
Because there's not much in them which would hold value/could be reused.

The "XPS" was likely aimed towards the "gaming" market so may have some kind of graphics card in it. The precision usually has higher spec CPU and or RAM which will be better for your needs.
