Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem similar to this. We have a Poweredge R610 with 4 x HM500JI drives in RAID 10, connected to a PERC6/i.

On boot up everything seems fine, however after boot we get the following errors (As shown in the DRAC console).

Fault detected on Drive 3.
Fault detected on Drive 2.
Fault detected on Drive 1.
Fault detected on Drive 0.
This is an OEM record.
C: boot completed.
Drive 3 is operating normally.
Drive 2 is operating normally.
Drive 1 is operating normally.
Drive 0 is operating normally.
Fault detected on Drive 3.
Fault detected on Drive 2.
Fault detected on Drive 1.
Fault detected on Drive 0.

Everytime I shutdown / boot up everything is fine, after POST the drives all have Amber LEDs and the LCD reports the same error.

When we view the PERC6/i configuration screen the drives and array are all fine with no predicated failures, the OS loads fine without any problems either.

I should also note the drives and PERC6/i and brand new. Has anyone seem anything like this?

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked that the cable from the card to backplane is seated correctly? Might be worth popping it off both ends and back on again.

These are standard OEM drives, we have several PERC6/i's in 1950s and 2950s with non-dell HDDs with no problems.

I know the PERC H700s where locked down to only Dell HDDs but as far as I am aware even this was lifted with a Firmware upgrade...

Very strange.

Get Dell to fix it - I assume that you have some kind of support option on it ?

Can't think what could be causing it... I would start by replacing the PERC card though.

As AlexD says. It is unlikely that all 4 drives would develop a fault at the same time. Log a call with Dell and they'll get you to run a DSET report which details what's going on. I assume you have flashed the controller firmware to latest version?

Thanks Guys, I think I have narrowed down the problem. The issue appears to be with the non-Dell Samsung drives.

I swapped then with some non-Dell WD drives and everything was fine.

So, can any recommend 4 x 2.5" 500GB 7200rpm drives that will work with the controller?

The server is for a test bed so we don't really want to spend double on Dell branded drives.

Thanks!
